Rules & Regulations
Youth eligible for Market Animal Shows must reside in one of the
following
counties: BROWARD, CHARLOTTE, COLLIER, DADE, DESOTO, GLADES, HARDEE, HENDRY,
HIGHLANDS, INDIAN RIVER, LEE, MANATEE, MARTIN, MONROE, OKEECHOBEE, PALM BEACH,
ST. LUCIE OR SARASOTA.
The South Florida Fair believes that every youth exhibitor should receive proper
training and information for raising and showing a youth animal project. It
is important that the exhibitor understand: The purpose and importance of ethics
in youth livestock projects, proper animal handling and management and the
difference between animal welfare and animal rights. The MANDATORY
Youth Livestock Show Ethics and Animal Care Workshop is designed to certify students to meet
these requirements. Certification is valid for a 3 year period if taken in
2008. This program has been endorsed by the Florida Department of Agriculture

Starting at 9am we will have the Animal Care and
Handling seminar followed by the Ethics Course. We
will break for lunch at 12pm (lunch will be provided).
Our “Bring Your Buyer To The Fair” closing
ceremonies should end by 2:30pm.

Exhibitors cannot be under the age of 8 or over the age of 18 as of
January 1, 2008. Exhibitors must also be attending school or be enrolled
in a certified home school program. Exhibitors who have graduated from
high school or obtained their high school G.E.D. are not eligible.
Exhibitors must have a major role in the feeding and caring program
of the animals.
All steers must be dehorned.
Exhibitors must present at weigh-in a health certificate and a certificate
signed by a veterinarian stating that all milk teeth are in place.
The health certificate and milk teeth certificate must not be dated more
than 30 days prior to weigh-in. A designated South Florida Fair ear tag
must be in the steer’s RIGHT EAR and tag number shown on health
certificate. Exhibitor will be given a TOTAL of 6 exhibitor passes and
1 parking pass.
The steer must weigh a minimum of 1000 POUNDS (scale weight) AT
WEIGH-IN ON 1/24/08 to show/sell and have gained a minimum of 2.00
POUNDS PER
DAY FROM INITIAL
WEIGH-IN DATE. Any steer not making weight will be disqualified
from the show and sale. The animals disqualified must be immediately removed
from the fairgrounds.
Exhibitor must be able to handle his/her steer by themselves
in the ring and with no more that two adults assisting outside
the ring at final weigh-in time or the animal will be disqualified. This
will be enforced by the Livestock Enforcement Committee.
No electric clipping will be allowed on the fairgrounds. GROOMING
FOR THE SHOW: There will be a fenced designated area for grooming.
Jr. exhibitors and ONE immediate family member only will be allowed in
this area. Intermediate and Senior exhibitors will groom alone,and ONE
immediate family member only will be allowed to give verbal assistance
from outside the fenced area. The designated grooming area will be monitored
by members of the Livestock Committee.

Pictures of both sides of the animal must be attached to
the form. All animals must be weighed by a South Florida
Fair Committee member(s). Weigh-in must be on a State of
Florida,
Department of Agriculture certified scale. Weight will be
certified by a Livestock Committee member(s) and a proper
entry form presented by the exhibitor, or the exhibitor will
be disqualified. It is the responsibility of each exhibitor
to contact one of the three committee members listed for
the date, time, and location
for weigh-in.

A minimum of 35 market steers and 75 market swine will
be sold, subject to sufficient entries. Subject to the
final decision
to
the Livestock
Committee, the total number of animals sold in each division
may be limited. A determina
tion of limitation for sale if any, in each category will
be decided within two
(2) weeks of the entry deadline. Should the limitation
of number of animals to be sold occur, those animals with the lowest score
in each category, using the judges grading system, will be eliminated
first.
Each exhibitor must write a minimum of FIVE (5) buyers
letters with TWO (2) NEW BUYERS. The letter must include
names and addresses of buyers. Copies of these letters must be sent to
the Fair address
above BY
DECEMBER 1ST. Failure
to comply will
result in NOT being able to show or sell your animal.
The animal being entered must be at the Fairgrounds
between 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm, Thursday, January 24,
2008 for weigh-in.
No animal
will be
allowed to UNLOAD
until the State Veterinarian or designate has checked
health papers.
(a) ANIMALS WILL BE WEIGHED ONE (1) TIME AND ONE
TIME ONLY!
(b) Market Steers and market hogs will undergo a sonogram
at weigh-in.
(c) Steers will be divided into classes according
to final weight.
Steers will be sold in the order in which
they place.
THERE WILL BE A MANDATORY EXHIBITOR/PARENT
MEETING AT 6:00 p.m. THURSDAY, JANUARY 24th IN THE LIVESTOCK PAVILION.
Exhibitor's sign MUST be in place for this meeting.
Animals and stall area must be well maintained until departure of the
animal.
There will be a $50.00 fine per day for each violation to be deducted from
the sales proceeds. Please bring your own cleaning implements. No fans
or tack boxes in the aisle way. Area must be inspected by a Livestock
Committee member before you will be released from the Fair.
Exhibitors will be clean and neatly dressed.
Exhibitors will wear long pants, buttoned shirt and closed toe shoes. No
tennis shoes permitted. Failure to adhere to proper dress code as determined
by the Livestock Committee may lead to disqualification.
Drug tests will
be given at the discretion of the Livestock Committee. No drugging of
animals is permitted. Drugging will result in disqualification, removal,
and forfeiture of premiums.
Tuberculin and brucellosis testing is not required
on steers entering market steer show only.
Steer weight at initial weigh-in
must be a minimum of 650 pounds. There will be a rate of gain contest.
All
steers will be entered in the State carcass contest, if held.
There will
be a deduction of not more than 5% from the final check for expenses.
Charges on Buy-Backs must be paid prior to the animal being shipped.
Checks
will not be issued until a a copy of the THANK YOU LETTER TO YOUR BUYER
has been received (within 30 days of market sale) by:

If Thank You letters are not received by said date, then exhibitor's
check will be forfeited to the Youth Market Animal Fund.
All
animals ENTERED will be SOLD at Auction. All market animals
MUST go to slaughter . NO exceptions will be granted.
Only
one market animal per exhibitor.
NO CHEMICALS ARE TO BE ADMINISTERED
WITHIN 30 DAYS OF SHOW DATE UNLESS ADMINISTERED BY A VETERINARIAN AND
ACCOMPANIED BY A LETTER.
Failure to comply with the above rules governing
this show will result in the immediate removal of the exhibitor’s
animal from the Fairgrounds and the forfeiture of all
premiums and sale proceeds.
Upon signing your entry form, you agree to
abide by the International Association of Fairs & Expositions
(IAFE) National Code of Show Ring Ethics.
No Dogs
are allowed inside the tents or buildings.
All steers weighing over
1300 pounds will be sold as 1300 pound steers.
It is required that exhibitor
and parent sign drug certification form at check-in prior to
acceptance for show and sale.
Market prices will be posted at the final
weigh-in for both market steers and hogs.
All
animals are subject to DNA verification by South Florida Fair Livestock
Committee.
Any animal
failing
DNA verification will be disqualified
and all proceeds forfeited. Any exhibitor
found
in violation
of this rule will be permanently banned
from participation in South Florida Fair livestock programs.
