CULINARY COMPETITION
January 24, 2009 - Judging starts at 1:00 pm.

Bring your entries Saturday, January 24, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. only.

Rules & Regulations
1. All foods will be judged on appearance, texture, taste, and procedure.
2. Recipe MUST accompany entry and MUST include entrant’s name.
3. Canning dates must be on jars.
4. All jars must be regulation canning jars only, using 2 pc. lids. No paraffin or sealing will be permitted. Broken seals will be disqualified.
5. All entries must be entered on disposable plates.
6. Juniors will be judged separately in all categories.
7. Restrictive diet foods will be judged separately in all categories.
8. Judging will be the same day as entries are submitted, and awards will be presented immediately following judging. Award time and place will be announced at registration.
9. Judging area will be closed to the public.
10. Entries will be returned at close of judging, and anything left over and not claimed will be disposed of in an appropriate manner.
11. Recipes become the property of the South Florida Fair.
NOTE: Please keep in mind when entering that we have NO refrigeration.

KING ARTHUR FLOUR BAKING CONTEST
Sunday, January 25, 2009 - Judging starts at 1:00 pm.
Sponsored by King Arthur Flour

Open to : Juniors- Ages 8 - 17; Adults- Ages 18 and up
PRIZES
Adult Category: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.
Junior Category: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.
All winners will also receive a ribbon.
NOTE: Recipe supplied. Click here to view and print recipes. MUST use King Arthur Flour.
Contest Rules
1. Entry form is required and must accompany the entry.
2. Exhibitor must bring the opened bag of King Arthur Flour or submit a UPC label from the flour bag.
3. Entry must follow any of the designated recipes and must be used exactly as it appears in the following pages.
4. All entries must be submitted in a disposable container for judging.
5. Judging will be based on the following criteria:
Flavor 50 points
Overall Appearance 25 points
Texture 25 points
TOTAL 100 points
6. Failure to follow the rules may result in disqualification.

  BABY BEAUTIFUL CONTEST
Saturday, January 31, 2009 - Registration: 10:00 am - 11:00 am. - Contest at 11:00 am

RULES:
1. Child must be under the age of three (3).

2. Awards will be given in the following categories:
A. Cutest Girl
B. Most Handsome Boy
C. Most personality
D. Curliest Hair
E. Shyest
F. Most Energetic
G. Happiest

3. Judging will be done by age group. The times for each group will be posted at registration. Awards will be given after each age group. Age groups are:
A. 0 - 5 Months (Judged in categories A, B, and D only)
B. 6 - 12 Months
C. 13 - 24 Months
D. 25 - 36 Months

NOTE: Clothing plays no part in any of the contests. Please dress your baby for COMFORT and FUN.

 TWINS CONTEST
Saturday, January 31, 2009 - Registration: 11:00 am. - Contest at 1:00 am

RULES:
1. First, Second and Third place ribbons will be awarded in each category:
    Most Alike Males
    Least Alike Males
    Most Alike Females
    Least Alike Females
    Most Alike Female/Male
    Least Alike Female/Male
    Twins with cutest “Twins” saying on t-shirt
    Best Triplets
2. Awards will be given in the following categories:
    Youngest Twins
    Oldest Twins
    Twins who have traveled the most distance
    Most sets of twins in family
3. All participants must register prior to contest. You may register in person 1/2 hour before start of competition.
4. The decisions of the judges are final.

HOBBY CONTEST
Saturday, January 31, 2009 - Registration: 11:00 am. - Contest at 1:00 am

1. The South Florida Fair Hobby Contest will consist of the following categories: TRAINS, CARS, TANKS, SHIPS, DIORAMAS, and a static display of flying models represented as the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) sport scale models. Information on the sport models can be found in the AMA Rule Book, which will be available at the Model Hobby Booth at the Fair.

Entry forms must be received no later than January 9th, 2009
3. Entry blanks should be filled out and attached to model. Contestants should bring the model to the Fairgrounds between 8:00 A.M. and 10:00 A.M. on WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 14, 2009.
4. Models may be picked up between 10:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M., Monday, February 2, 2009. Under no circumstances may models be removed during the Fair.
5. Contestants may submit as many as four (4) models per category.
6. Models will be judged on the merit of proficiency, as outlined in rule number 8 to follow. No consideration will be given to scale (model size) or the materials the model is made of such as wood, plastic, paper, etc.
7. There will be no age limitations or considerations of contestants.
8. Trophies will be awarded to the 1st place winners in all 6 categories; 2nd through 5th place winners will receive ribbons.

 2009 QUILT BLOCK CONTEST

THEME: “A World of Fun”
1st Price: $100.00
The Theme for the 2009 South Florida Fair and Palm Beach County Quilters’ Guild Block Contest is “A World of Fun”.
Cash prizes: First place-$100.00, second place-$50.00, and third place-$25.00.
Approximately 19 winners will be chosen to have their blocks incorporated into the “A World of Fun” quilt. All winners will receive a pair of Fair tickets and quilt magazine subscription, book or comparable prize of the committee’s choosing.

This is the 23rd year for the contest where the Palm Beach County Quilters’ Guild members design a quilt top with the winning blocks, which is quilted and displayed at the PBCQG booth during the South Florida Fair, January 16 through February 1, 2009.

RULES & ELIGIBILITY
1. The contest is open to anyone except employees or Board members of the South Florida Fair and their immediate families.
2. Blocks made by more than one will not be accepted for judging.
3. The quilt block must conform to the Contest theme “A World of Fun”. Click here for details. You may design your own block or make a traditional block recognizable to the theme.
4. The completed block must measure 13 inches square or a little larger, if you desire so, it can be sewn to a finished size 12 inches square in the quilt. The extra gives us design choices in matching up blocks in the quilt.
5. Do not embellish or carry the design beyond the 12 inches into the larger seam area.
6. Any category of technique (patchwork, appliqué, etc.) is acceptable.
7. Fabrics must be woven, pre-washed 100% cotton.
8. Do not quilt your block.
9. Do not finish the edge of your block by hemming, zigzagging, or bordering.
10. You may enter more than one block, but only one block per person can win.

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY
1. All winning quilt blocks become the property of the SOUTH FLORIDA FAIR and PALM BEACH COUNTY QUILTERS’ GUILD.
2. The SOUTH FLORIDA FAIR and PALM BEACH COUNTY QUILTERS’ GUILD will not be responsible for lost, late or misdirected mail.
3. Illegible, incomplete, or damaged entry blanks or quilt blocks will be disqualified. JUDGING All quilt blocks will be judged by a SOUTH FLORIDA FAIR representative and well-known quilting persons selected by PALM BEACH COUNTY QUILTERS’ GUILD. All decisions of the judges are final. NOTIFICATION OF WINNERS Winners will be selected in November and notified by mail along with a judge’s critique. Non-winning blocks will be returned without a judge’s critique.
